Muscat is the capital city of Oman and is referred to as three smaller towns which have grown together: Muscat: It is the site of royal palaces, often called as ‘walled city’. Matrah: Initially a fishing village and home to the Matrah Souq. Ruwi: Often considered as the diplomatic and commercial centre of the country. The city's economy is dominated by trade and Muscat's Securities Market is the principal stock exchange of Oman. The main airport is Muscat International airport and the area is well served with public transportation such as bus, car, taxi and rail facilities.

The city has numerous Mosques and some of the famous are Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque- the third largest mosque in the world, Ruwi Mosque and Zawawi Mosque including two Hindu temples- a Shiva Temple and a Krishna Temple and few Churches are also built. Muscat has a number of museums and the list includes Museum of Omani Heritage and Oman Natural History Museum which always attract tourists from all over the world.

The Bait Al Falaj Fort played an important part in Muscat's military history. The city is also a home to some of the beautiful beaches. Qantab and Qurum are some of the most beautiful beaches that are worth attractive and peaceful. These beautiful beaches along with their cliffs attract tourists from all over the world. Tourists are also keen to visit the Old Musact and the Old Palace. The main shopping area is Al Qurum Commercial area. However shopping malls are located throughout the city. Food can be cheap and you can find several restaurants that are spread in the entire city.
